In 1962, when I was 14, I purchased and restored my first car, a 1929 Model A Ford sports coupe. With that, I was hooked.
As the years went by, cars came and went as did family and business obligations, but the love of cars remained; especially the pleasure and excitement of driving them. The longer the distance, the harder the trip, the more I enjoyed it.
Over the last several years I moved from the Model A to the Model T's; then to brass T's; and finally Maxwell's, Buick, and White. Today we own several Model T Fords; 2 Maxwell's; a 1910 Model 16 Buick Roadster; and a 1910 Model GB White.
I believe that to restore and drive these cars is to promote and save living history. By tapping into the knowledge of those more experienced than I, and seeking to educate as we tour, travel, and visit, we spread the love and respect for the early automobiles and their place in history.
All too soon the earlier generations of automobilist will be gone. They are entrusting their experience and love for their machines to us; and we will, in turn, pass this on to our children and future generations.
My wife Pam and I have toured extensively through Maine, British Columbia, Yellowstone, Florida, The Blue Ridge Mountains, northwestern Massachusetts, and Northern Italy in the past six years. We enjoy the opportunity to introduce our hobby to people. Every outing provides both new friends and new insight into the cars' impact on people's lives for the past 100 years. In Italy we heard "Bellisima Machina!"
Our son, daughter-in-law have shown an interest in continuing our hobby into the nest generation.
I am grateful for the help we've received from the HCCA and its members; we look forward to promoting and supporting it goals with enthusiasm.
