Back in 1963 I went to an antique car show in Miami with a friend and got hooked. The next month I bought my first car: a 1930 Model A Ford Roadster, which I still own today.
My involvement with HCCA started when I bought a 1910 REO from Harold Coker in 1967. I joined HCCA that year and became a life member the following year. I was founding president of the Palm Beach Regional Group and helped obtain brass cars for the grand opening of Disney World in Orlando.
I have been collecting cars, and I almost never sell any, for over 40 years. I sold five cars and bought one of them back. I know it sounds stupid but, to me, the cars are part of my family. Blanche and I currently own a 1908 2-cylinder REO, 1910 Model T Ford, 1912 Velie, 1912 Detroit Electric, 1913 Model T Ford, 1913 Overland Touring, 1913 White Touring, 1914 Overland Roadster, 1915 Ford Depot Hack, 1915 Ford Speedster, 1915 Studebaker Touring, and a 1915 Dodge Touring.
Every year Blanche and I go on the Glidden Tour®. I have been on more Glidden Tours than any other person active in the hobby. We also make our annual pilgrimage to Hershey. We have three adult children and all of them are life members of HCCA. They grew up having their diapers changed on runningboards. Thanks to Phil Reed, our youngest daughter and her husband own a 1909 2-cylinder REO. The other two children, Robin and David, are co-owners of two of the three 1915 Model T’s.
I am starting my third term on the National Board. I love to travel all around the country and tour with HCCA members. I will continue to work on your behalf on the national level. And, as I’ve said for over 40 years,
See you down the road
