The HCCA National 1 & 2 Cylinder Tour
Slow Roads Through The Finger Lakes
August 18 - 21, 2008
Painted Post, NY
Sponsored by the Autoneers
Regional Group, HCCA. |
Our tour will be headquartered at The Lodge on
the Green in Painted Post, NY, just west of Corning and south of the
scenic Finger Lakes area of New York State.
The Finger Lakes area is famous for its wine,
but is home to many attractions, including road racing, Pioneer Aviation,
and Corning Glass.
We'll start our week visiting Watkins Glen on
Seneca Lake, made famous by road racing, but also a scenic wonder itself.
Tuesday will find us driving east of Corning to visit the Wings of Eagles
Discovery Center, enjoying a box lunch in Big Flats and climbing Harris
Hill to the National Soaring Museum for a tour and if you like, a ride in
a sailplane. Wednesday we're off to the pretty town of Hammondsport on
Keuka Lake, the home of pioneer aviator Glenn Curtiss, tour the Curtiss
Museum and Pleasant Valley Wine Co. On our final day we'll go over hill
and dale for a day in Corning with the Corning Museum of Glass, the
Steuben Glass factory, Historic Market Street and the Rockwell Museum of
Western Art.
I should mention our hills. Routes following
valleys are always less taxing on man and machine, but sometimes it's
necessary to climb an occasional hill to reach an attraction. So be sure
your ancient auto is prepared for an occasional challenge, both up and
down!
We're planning an informal opening buffet on
Sunday evening. We will have an educational session (wine tasting) Tuesday
evening on the wonders on New York wines. There'll be enough light fare,
so travel to dinner won't be necessary. Thursday we'll have our wrap up
gathering at a nearby golf course restaurant.
The Lodge on the Green in Painted Post, NY is

Route 17, aka Interstate 86, and US Route 15. Official address is 196
