Tour Summary
Sunday, Oct. 24 Registration at the Hampton Inn, Thomasville, 10 AM -5 PM.
Opening meal 5:30 -7 PM, Southern buffet at the Market Diner in Thomasville, next to
State Farmer’s Market.
Monday, Oct. 25 Tour heads south into Florida; coffee stop at private home and car collection.
Lunch destination: Wakulla Springs State Park, formerly a DuPont executive retreat, built
in the 1920s. Includes a delectible sandwich buffet plus a leisurely cruise on undeveloped
Wakulla River, teeming with waterfowl, amphibians and reptiles.
Dinner on your own with a range of eateries available in Thomasville.
Tuesday, Oct. 26 Coffee stop is in Greenville, FL, childhood home of Ray Charles.
In Madison, FL, the city will start a large steam engine that once ran a lumber mill.
After lunch at Shelby’s, an area favorite, and tours to an herb farm and historic homes,
you will head north through the heart of Dixie to Boston, home of the mini-marathon
and an interesting hardware store.
Afternoon break is at the Dillon Candy Co., a maker of premier nut candies.
Dinner on your own.
Wednesday, Oct. 27 Our coffee stop is a peaceful setting on the shore of the 6,228-acre Lake Miccosukee.
We go south to lunch destination at Tallahassee Antique Car Museum, which includes a
wide variety of automobilia and other collections in addition to cars.
At 5:30, enjoy a special family-style Southern supper at the rustic Homecoming Restaurant,
just up the street from the hotels.
Thursday, Oct. 28 Our coffee stop is at a working cotton gin, one of the largest in the nation,
Continuing on to Cairo (KAY-ro, like the syrup), you will tour the Cairo Antique Car
Museum, which includes bicycles and motorbikes. You will be treated to a delicious
lunch served there.
Dinner on your own.
Friday, Oct. 29 Thomasville Day! Explore our charming town with its boutiques and antique shops,
unique history museums, well-kept ante-bellum mansions, and driving tours through
the various historic districts, and a plantation. Be sure to visit Flowers Baking Company
for a factory tour.
Lunch is on own.
At 6 PM, relax at the casual closing dinner, enjoying old and new friends.
