April 6-8, 2017
(Special thanks to Marilyn Balduff for sharing
her photos & for writing a recap of the events)
April in Southern California can be beautiful and this year it was. We have had lots of rain, the wild flowers are blooming, the sunny weather is in the mid 60s and old car and parts swapping is in fine shape.
The first day of the Bakersfield Swap Meet and Tour is all about touring. There are two tours. One that the small cars drive on around town. The other is for the larger cars. This year the scenery on the larger car tour was spectacular as the cars drove up into the mountains for lunch. The cars drove past miles of brightly colored hills filled with flowers. Lunch was tasty and the conversations held in the high mountain air were even better.
The next two days were all about swapping. When the sun rose, the deals were started. Welcome to the Bakersfield Swap Meet. This year in addition to the great auto parts that were available, we had a large turnout of Model T Fords for sale.
The featured car this year was the REO. We had a beautiful red one on display and it was checked over thoroughly
John C. Meyer 111 was the honored guest and he gave an interesting presentation about his REO and his adventures with the Horseless Carriage Club.
A large thank you goes to the Horseless Carriage Club of America and the Kern County Model T Club for doing another outstanding job!
